I started this blog to encourage others to read more. They say that if you can't afford to travel, read a book. These books have taken me all over the US, Australia, Ireland and Britain. I have learned about folk lore, mythology, and many different cultures. Books are my escape from a world that is full of unhappiness. The authors on this blog have become my tour guides. I appreciate the hard work that they put into the research that goes into each and every book.

M J Scott - The Half-Light City Series
M J Scott - The Half-Light City 1 - Shadow Kin
Welcome to the Half-Light City.
Imagine a city divided. On one side, the Night World, ruled by the Blood Lords and the Beast Kind. On the other, the elusive Fae and the humans, protected by their steadfast mages. A city held together by nothing more than a treaty-and even then, just barely...
I was born of a Fae mother, but I had no place amongst her kind. They called me "soulless." An abomination. Perhaps they're right...I'm a wraith, a shadow who slips between worlds. I was given into the service of a Blood Lord who raised me to be his most feared assassin. Still, I'm nothing more than a slave to my master, and to the need that only he can fulfill...
Then he orders me to kill Simon DuCaine, a powerful sunmage. In the blaze of his magic, my own disappears. Instead of seeking revenge, Simon shows me mercy. He wants to free me. But that's one thing my master and his kind will never allow.
And even if I thought I could trust Simon, stepping from the shadow into the light isn't as simple as it sounds.
M J Scott - The Half-Light City 2 - Blood Kin
Imagine a city divided. A city where human and Fae magic rests uneasily next to the vampire Blood and the shapeshifting Beasts. A city where a fragile peace is brokered by a treaty that set the laws for all four races…a treaty that is faltering day by day.
I didn’t plan on becoming a thief and a spy. But options are limited for the half-breed daughter of a Fae lord. My father abandoned me but at least I inherited some of his magic, and my skills with charms and glamours mean that few are as good at uncovering secrets others wish to hide. Right now the city has many secrets. And those who seek them pay so well…
I never expected to stumble across a Templar Knight in my part of the city. Guy DuCaine is sworn to duty and honor and loyalty—all the things I’m not. I may have aroused more than his suspicion...but he belongs to the Order and the human world. So when treachery and violence spill threaten both our worlds, learning to trust each other might be the only thing that saves us.
But even if a spy and a holy knight can work together, finding the key to peace is never going to be easy.
M J Scott - The Half-Light City 3 - Iron Kin
Imagine a city divided. Fae and human mages on one side, vampire Blood Lords and shape-shifting Beast Kind on the other. Between these supernatural forces stands a peace treaty that threatens to shatter at the slightest provocation….
I was raised to do the right thing. But to my family that means staying safe behind the walls of human society. To be a respectable metalmage and never put myself at risk. But the treaty is faltering. And if it fails, nothing is safe. To help save the city and everyone I care about, I will use whatever means I can to ensure the negotiations to renew the treaty are successful—even if that means forging an alliance with a man who is the very opposite of the right thing….
Fen is trouble. Wild. He would rather bind himself in iron and drink himself into oblivion than learn to master the visions that come to him. Those visions might just hold the key to peace, and it seems that my power might hold the key to his control—if I can keep it around him.
M J Scott - The Half-Light City 4 - Fire Kin
Imagine a city divided…a city readying itself for a war. The vampire Blood and the shape-shifting Beast Kind seek to seize control now that the treaty is broken. Only the humans stand in their way…but they stand without their Fae allies…and they desperately need help....
I chose to stay with the humans when the Fae withdrew from the City. I am a healer, and they need me. I know the odds are against them. I know they need reinforcements. But I never expected them to turn and seek aid from the depths of my past. Asharic is a powerful Fae, exiled by the Veiled Queen thirty years ago. Leaving me behind. But now the queen is dead and the throne is vacant, and Ash is returning to the City—my City—with his mercenary army.
It would be false to deny that there is still a spark between us, but I will not be taken in again. And I’m not the only one disturbed by his return. A Blood lord is poised to conquer the Half-Light City, and other enemies new and old are gathering to eliminate the threat Ash poses. To save the City, we will have to join forces. And pray we’re not the ones who burn.

My family was slaughtered, killed by the creatures we spent our lives hunting. I would have been killed, too, if it wasn't for a mysterious man that appeared out of nowhere and saved me, then vanished just as quickly. I owe him my life. I also blame him for it. It's been two years since that night, but it feels like yesterday. I can still hear their screams and see the blood pooled beneath their bodies. And I can still see the piercing blue eyes of the man that saved me and feel his warm, strong arms wrapped around me as he carried me to safety. I don't expect to ever see him again. But then again, life has a way of surprising you, of kicking you in the ass right when you least expect it.
E J King - Soul Hunters 2 - Broken Souls
Kaylie Hart has been running from her past for two years. After her family was viciously murdered in a Soul attack, she swore that she would leave that life behind. But then James Rafferty and Ethan Night move in upstairs.
Now, Kaylie is surrounded by the life she tried to leave. When two girls go missing on campus, it’s time for Kaylie to stop running and start fighting. Just when she begins to think that she might be able to live in both worlds, her best friend, Hope, becomes a target of the Soul attacks. If Kaylie wants to save her friend, she needs to embrace her destiny once and for all.
With the help of Rafe and Ethan, Kaylie faces the demons of her past and begins to accept her uncertain future.
Kaylie Hart has finally accepted that she can’t run from her past any longer. The monsters in her life aren’t the kind that vanish when you turn on the light. But she’s had a harder time accepting that the brother she thought had been killed two years ago might still be alive.
When she receives a mysterious text from that brother, she makes it her mission to find out the truth. An impromptu road trip with her best friend, Hope, and fellow Hunters, Rafe and Ethan, leads them down a dark road. Not only that, but Kaylie finds herself being drawn even closer to the mysterious, alluring James Rafferty.
Kaylie must decide if she can find a way to believe in people again- to believe that her brother is still alive and to believe that Rafe might be just the person she needs to learn how to love again.
The supernatural monsters of Kaylie Hart’s past are back for good. Now that she has decided to stop running, she struggles to keep her normal and paranormal lives balanced.
After returning to town from an unsuccessful road trip to find her missing brother, Kaylie and her friends discover that men are going missing in Jackson. She quickly determine that they are hunting a Siren- a mythological creature that targets men by manipulating and eventually killing them. It’s all in a night’s work for Kaylie and the other Hunters.
In addition to hunting again, Kaylie has also decided to open her heart to a fellow Hunter, Rafe. But when Rafe becomes the Siren’s latest victim, Kaylie’s two worlds collide and she is forced to face both of her deepest fears- love and loss.
For two years, Kaylie Hart has mourned the death of her entire family. She buried them, grieved them, and started her life over without them. But then her brother, Lincoln, comes back from the dead.
He faked his death to protect her, to keep their family secret buried. But Kaylie quickly learns that he has been keeping even more secrets. Not only that, but her friends have been lying to her, too. As Kaylie learns the truth about her family, she also faces the painful truth that she is madly in love with fellow Hunter, Rafe. But their time together is running out.
Just when she starts to accept their situation, her friend, Hope, is pulled into the deadly Hunter world and Kaylie helplessly faces the possibility that she may have to kill her best friend.
Kaylie Hart’s worst nightmare has come true. Her best friend has been turned into one of the monsters that she has spent her life hunting. Now she is faced with a terrible decision- kill Hope or wait for Hope to kill someone else?
Then Olivia Silver, Lincoln’s old friend, shows up on Kaylie’s doorstep. In addition to being a sultry, sassy woman and a Hunter, she also knows of a cure for vampirism- the blood of the Alpha. Too bad Hope was turned by one of the biggest and baddest Souls in town- Kaylie’s father, Benton Hart.
Kaylie learns that she must kill her father to save her friend and in the end, she vows to risk everything to save the people she loves.
Kaylie Hart swore that she would find a way to save James Rafferty. Not just because she loves him, but because she owes him. Two years ago, he saved her life. Now, it is her turn to return the favor.
But to save him, she has to get him to drain her blood. When it’s over, Rafe is saved but she hovers at the brink of death, fighting to find her way back to him. When she finally opens her eyes, it’s like she can see for the first time, and she can finally see a future for herself.
But as she prepares to send her brother and best friend on a necessary trip to save Hope, things take a drastic turn for the worse. The only solution is to leave the place that Kaylie calls home and search for answers on the road. In a race against evil, Kaylie is determined to win.
On the road with Rafe and Ethan, she crosses paths with an old friend and learns secrets about her family’s past. She decides that she has to learn more, but that she can’t tell the people she loves most in the world.
After leaving Rafe and Ethan, she comes across a Were nest and faces a side of the supernatural world that she never knew existed. When she meets the charming Alpha of a nearby pack, everything she ever believed about the monsters she spent her life hunting is questioned. Slade forces her to face the ultimate question- are all monsters evil?

Morgan Rice - Kings and Sorcerers Trilogy
Morgan Rice - Kings and Sorcerers 1 - Rise of the Dragon
Kyra, 15, dreams of becoming a famed warrior, like her father, even though she is the only girl in a fort of boys. As she struggles to understand her special skills, her mysterious inner power, she realizes she is different than the others. But a secret is being kept from her about her birth and the prophecy surrounding her, leaving her to wonder who she really is.
When Kyra comes of age and the local lord comes to take her away, her father wants to wed her off to save her. Kyra, though, refuses, and she journeys out on her own, into a dangerous wood, where she encounters a wounded dragon—and ignites a series of events that will change the kingdom forever.
15 year old Alec, meanwhile, sacrifices for his brother, taking his place in the draft, and is carted off to The Flames, a wall of flames a hundred feet high that wards off the army of Trolls to the east. On the far side of the kingdom, Merk, a mercenary striving to leave behind his dark past, quests through the wood to become a Watcher of the Towers and help guard the Sword of Fire, the magical source of the kingdom’s power. But the Trolls want the Sword, too—and they prepare for a massive invasion that could destroy the kingdoms forever.
Morgan Rice - Kings and Sorcerers 2 - Rise of the Valiant
In the wake of the dragon’s attack, Kyra is sent on an urgent quest: to cross Escalon and seek out her uncle in the mysterious Tower of Ur. The time has come for her to learn about who she is, who her mother is, and to train and develop her special powers. It will be a quest fraught with peril for a girl alone, Escalon filled with dangers from savage beasts and men alike—one that will require all of her strength to survive.
Her father, Duncan, must lead his men south, to the great water city of Esephus, to attempt to free his fellow countrymen from the iron grip of Pandesia. If he succeeds, he will have to journey to the treacherous Lake of Ire and then onto the icy peaks of Kos, where there live the toughest warriors of Escalon, men he will need to recruit if he has any chance of taking the capital.
Alec escapes with Marco from The Flames to find himself on the run through the Wood of Thorns, chased by exotic beasts. It is a harrowing journey through the night as he quests for his hometown, hoping to be reunited with his family. When he arrives, he is shocked by what he discovers.
Merk, despite his better judgment, turns back to help the girl, and finds himself, for the first time in his life, entangled in a stranger’s affairs. He will not forego his pilgrimage to the Tower of Ur, though, and he finds himself anguished as he realizes the tower is not what he expects.
Vesuvius spurs his giant as he leads the Trolls on their mission underground, attempting to bypass The Flames, while the dragon, Theos, has his own special mission on Escalon.
Morgan Rice - Kings and Sorcerers 3 - The Weight of Honor
In THE WEIGHT OF HONOR, Kyra finally meets her cryptic uncle, and is shocked to discover he is not the man she expected. She embarks on a period of training which will test her stamina and her frustration, as she soon encounters the limits of her power. Unable to summon her dragon, unable to search deep within, and feeling an urgency to help in her father’s wars, Kyra doubts if she will ever become the warrior she thought she was. And when she meets a mysterious boy, more powerful than her, deep in the forest, she wonders what her future really has in store for her.
Duncan must descend the peaks of Kos with his new army and, vastly outnumbered, launch a risky invasion on the capital. If he wins, waiting behind its ancient walls, he knows, will be the old king and his nest of nobles and aristocrats, all with their own agendas, all of them as quick to betray as they are to embrace. Unifying Escalon may, indeed, be harder than freeing it.
Alec, in Ur, must tap his unique skills in the forge to aid the resistance if they have any chance of defending against the looming Pandesian invasion. He is awestruck when he encounters Dierdre, the strongest girl he has ever meet. The time she has a chance to make a stand against Pandesia, and as she bravely faces off, she who wonders if her father and his men will have her back this time.
Merk finally enters the tower of Ur, and is stunned by what he discovers. Initiated into its strange codes and rules, he meets his fellow Watchers, the toughest warriors he has ever encountered, and he finds that earning their respect will not be easy. With an invasion looming, they must all prepare the tower; yet even all its secret passageways may not keep them safe from the betrayal lurking from within.
Vesuvius leads his Troll nation across a vulnerable Escalon, devastating the land, while Theos, enraged at what becomes of his son, is on a rampage himself, and will not stop until all of Escalon is aflame.
