Charlaine Harris - Southern Vampire Mysteries - Book13

Previous books in this series that I have already read:

Charlaine Harris – Sookie Stackhouse 13 – Dead Ever After
Sookie Stackhouse has one last adventure in store.
Life has taken her from a waitress in Merlotte’s Bar, Bon Temps, to part owner; from social outcast to the heart of her community; from a vampire’s girlfriend to the wife of one of the most powerful vampires in the state. She has survived earthquakes, revolutions and attempts on her life. Sookie has endured betrayal, heartbreak and grief . . . and she has emerged a little stronger, and little wiser, every time.
But with life comes new trials . . .
The question is, in the end: who will love, who will live, and who will be dead ever after?
There are secrets in the town of Bon Temps, ones that threaten those closest to Sookie—and could destroy her heart....
Sookie Stackhouse finds it easy to turn down the request of former barmaid Arlene when she wants her job back at Merlotte’s. After all, Arlene tried to have Sookie killed. But her relationship with Eric Northman is not so clear-cut. He and his vampires are keeping their distance…and a cold silence. And when Sookie learns the reason why, she is devastated.
Then a shocking murder rocks Bon Temps, and Sookie is arrested for the crime.
But the evidence against Sookie is weak, and she makes bail. Investigating the killing, she’ll learn that what passes for truth in Bon Temps is only a convenient lie. What passes for justice is more spilled blood. And what passes for love is never enough

Maybe the title of the last book should have rather been…. BORED TO DEATH. With the second last book, I already suspected the way the series would end, but I was hoping for a miracle. I never expected that Charlaine Harris would put the final stake in the series. I’m a little bit wistful for what could have been a better ending. As Charlaine Harris said: “I can’t make everyone happy.” For someone who can read minds, is part fae, has had relationships with four supernaturals, has survived bombings, shootings, been staked, been stabbed, been clawed by a maenad, been attacked by werewolves, been attacked by vampires, been attacked by faeries, been attacked by witches, been attacked by a church, been tortured, been beat up by humans, been attacked by shifters, been taken hostage countless times, been molested as a child, lost almost her entire family, had half her house burned down, been banned by penalty of death from certain states and been on many, many villains ‘to kill’ list and survived….. I THINK SOOKIE DESERVED A BETTER ENDING THAN THAT. I’m really shocked that Charlaine would build a relationship between Sookie and Eric throughout about 9 or 10 books and then flush all the progress the characters have made right down the toilet. This was sudden character genocide. I have loved this series up to Book 11, but the last two books really were disappointing.
